Suwayda container Ghafla says: "On one occasion I went to see Imam Ali (A.S) in the Government House (Darul Amirah). It was the hour of breakfast and before him, there was some milk and some grain bread. The bread was dry, flat, hard, and contained no margarine or oil. It couldn't be quickly broken into pieces. Imam Ali (A.S) was striving to break it and mellow it. I turned towards the house cleaner worker, Fizza, and said, 'Fizza! Have you no pity upon your old expert, and for what reason might you at any point give him gentler bread and add a spread or oil to it?' She answered, "For what reason would it be a good idea for me I feel sorry for him when he never feels sorry for himself. He has provided severe orders that nothing is to be added to his bread and even waste and husks are not to be isolated from the flour. We, ourselves eat much preferable food over this, in spite of the fact that we are his workers." Hearing this, I told him, "O ace! Have feel sorry for yourself; take a gander at your age, your obligations, your diligent effort, and your food." He answered, "O Suwayda! You have no clue about what the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) used to eat. He never ate his fill for three successive days."
Abdullah ibn Zurarah says: "I went to see Imam Ali (A.S) on a celebration (Eid) day. He requested that I participate in his morning meal. I assented. An extremely straightforward sort of food was served before us. I told him, "O ace! You are a particularly rich man and a caliph. I was expecting that a game would be served before us however what do I see?" The incomparable Imam answered, "Ibn Zurarah, you have known about strong rulers who have driven the existence of extravagance. Allow me to be a ruler having the existence of a poor and humble individual - - and unassuming worker."

Ibn Abi Rafe', the well-known Tabe'i, says: He went to Imam Ali (A.S) on a celebration (Eid) day and keeping in mind that he was staying there, a sack was brought before the Imam; he figured it could contain germs. The Imam opened the sack; it contained dried slices of bread, which he relaxed with water. Ibn Abi Rafe' asked him with regards to the explanation of fixing such a sort of food which even a bum wouldn't want to take. Harun ibn Anza said that he went with his dad (Anza) to meet Imam Ali (A.S), on cold weather days and the colder time of year was exceptionally extreme. He found the Imam in an exceptionally meager cotton piece of clothing, and the virus wind was making him shudder. Anza asked him, "O Commander of the Faithful! Allah has saved an offer for yourself as well as your family from Public Treasury for what reason do you not utilize it?" He answered: "O Anza! I need nothing from your depository; this is the dress I have carried with me from Medina."
Zayd ibn Wahab said that once Imam Ali (A.S) emerged from his home and there were patches sewn to his dress. Ibn Nu'aja, who was once a Kharijite and a foe but was permitted to carry on with a tranquil and agreeable existence by Imam at Kufa when insulted Imam Ali (A.S) on the extremely poor and coarse sort of dress put on by him. He answered: "Let go, what have you to find complaint in my dress, it is the sort which our masses can bear, for what reason might you at any point consider their lives and dresses!
